Choose your Area Code [up]
Voice Phone is a nationwide service - so
when you switch to
Voice Phone you have
the freedom to choose a new number in an entirely different area
code.
Let's say you own a company in New york but your customers are
primarily in Los Angeles. You might want your new
Voice Phone
number to be in the 310 area code. Your calls to your LA
customers will then be local, as will theirs to you - and you'll
both save money. With Voice
Phone, you're not tied to your current area code unless
you want to be. And in that case, you can almost always select a
new number within your current code. Available Area Codes is
another way Voice Phone
helps you transcend the limits of physical location.

LNP: Keep Your Phone Number
[up]
Start by entering your current phone number (land line or cell)
in the tool to the lower right to check if your number lies
within the geographic area where numbers can be transferred to
Voice Phone. If it
does, when you
sign up for
Voice Phone select
"Keep My Existing Phone Number."
Upon sign-up you will be assigned a temporary phone number with
the same area code as your current number, if available. You can
start using your temporary number immediately.
Transferring your number will take a minimum of 20 days once you
start the transfer process. When the transfer is completed we
notify you by email and you can immediately begin using your old
number once again.
The large majority of number transfers get completed in
a timely manner. However, in a small number of cases
phone numbers that are within
Voice Phone’s geographic transfer area and that have
been authorized by customers for release to
Voice Phone are delayed and/or unable to be transferred
over.
In this unlikely event, you can choose to keep using your
temporary Voice Phone
number or get a new
Voice Phone number in
your area code. Alternatively, some
Voice Phone customers
keep their existing number with their old phone company but with
minimal service - and do virtually all their communicating
through Voice Phone.
We realize that these options aren't the same as transfer of
your number to Voice Phone.
But hopefully our features, service and pricing will make it
very easy for you to get very comfortable with your new
Voice Phone phone number right away.

TRANSFER YOUR EXISTING PHONE NUMBER/LOCAL
NUMBER PORTABILITY (LNP) [up]
Local Number Portability (LNP) enables consumers in the United
States to transfer their existing telephone number (traditional
or Internet-based) from one phone service provider to another.
With Voice Phone
Internet Phone Service, you can request that your number be
“ported” free of charge at anytime during the initial order
process or even after you have become a
Voice Phone
subscriber, as long as you maintain phone service for the number
you want to transfer.
You will be able to submit and track the number porting process
online. Although Voice Phone
makes every attempt to work with all telephone service providers
across the United States, certain local or regional guidelines
may preclude us from being able to port your number to
Voice Phone. In such cases, a new number from
Voice Phone would be provided. The process may take 2-4
weeks to complete. This transfer time can be dramatically
reduced when all forms are correctly filled out with accurate
information. During the porting process,
Voice Phone will
provide a temporary phone number that is your option to keep.
Voice Phone will have your old service turned off after
the transfer has taken place.

AbouT VOICE PHONE Enhanced 911 Service [up]
Over the past few decades, public safety agencies throughout
the country have invested hundreds of millions of dollars
upgrading their 911 systems to Enhanced 911 (E911).
E911 service delivers address-specific (versus phone
number-only) call-back information to public service answering
points (PSAPs) whenever someone makes an emergency call. This
enables emergency personnel to be dispatched to the scene even
if the caller is unable to speak or if the call is suddenly
disconnected.
We provide two methods of handling 911 calls.
1. If you use a box like the Linksys 3102 or the
Grandstream 486, and that box remains connected to a working
telephone connection, 911 calls can be routed to the telephone
connection. This is accomplished by connecting the telephone
line to the FXO port on the box (often identified as "line", as
distinguished from "phone").
2. If you do not connect to a working telephone line, then you
will need to provide E911 service . Any DID number provisioned
through Voice Phone can have E911 service attached. The cost of
this service is $3.49 a month. To order it, we will need the
name and address of the subscriber along with the DID number.
